Basic Channel Optimization

In this lesson, we're going to do basic YouTube channel optimization and video promotion.

We left off at uploading the first video. Just like everything else, after you post it online, you want to social bookmark it. So I'm going to do that right now, but in addition to social bookmarking the URL for my video, I'm also going to social bookmark my YouTube channel.

This is important. A lot of people overlook this, but you want to also build links to your YouTube channel. The reason why is because it will through that linking power to every single one of your videos. So along with increasing the search engine rankings of each video, it's also going ot help make your channel more targeted.

Now this is one of those small tweaks that can really improve your results.

Let's jump over to fiverr. Like everything else, we're just going to grab a decent social bookmarking gig, and I'm going to order a quantity of two.

By the way, if you want to speed things up, it helps to select a credit card as your payment option. This just makes things so much quicker. If you're only doing one or two gigs, it doesn't really matter, but if you're really into this, it definitely helps to go with a credit card.

So I just paid for the first gig, and what I'm going to do is build links to the video first.

These keywords are essentially the tags you entered for YouTube and also the tags on your blog post.

In these descriptions, I'm going to include some sort of keyword that I'm trying to rank for. It also helps to add multiple descriptions; this will make things rank a little bit better. You'll get more bang for your buck. Ideally you want to do 3-5 descriptions if you can. Some gigs won't allow it, but most will.

Now I'm going to backlink my channel. My channel URL is at the top. Sometimes, if you're on the wrong page, it'll have something like /feed. You just want to make sure that that's not set. That's youre root channel url. And I'm going to do what I just did for the first one. The same keywords pretty much, but I'm also throwing some other keywords in here as well. I'm going to vary up the keywords just a little bit.

Now if you're wondering why I'm doing different keywords here, I'm just trying to be a little bit more random. You'll notice I am going to try to rank for some of the keywords above, but it helps just to change it up every once in a while. You don't want everything to be the exact same.

You may notice that I haven't used some of these keywords yet. If you look at my channel, I don't have any keyword "best skin tag treatment" yet. But when I upload additional videos in the future, I'm going to try to attack that keyword. That's a keyword people will type in, so it helps to have the keyword in additional videos.

Commenting On Other Videos

Now that the social bookmarking is finished, we're going to do one more thing that can provide some serious results. I look for similar videos, and I post some comments on them. Just to make this easy, once I find a video, I make sure there are some recent comments. This tells me the video is still active and that I can comment. It helps to watch the video so you can have something good to comment about.

Sample comment:

"Who knew scissors were so effective at getting rid of skin tags? They say it's painless, but does it leave scarring?"

Don't just spam the comments with just keywords.

Here's another example comment:

"Thanks for posting this video. I always wondered if the freezing method was effective. I might have to make a video on this skin tag removal method myself." 

And you can see when I comment, it has my username, and when you click that it goes right to my channel. This is going to flow some of the link juice from the video to my channel. That increases the rank of your channel and the videos of that channel. It also increases your authority in the niche, and it makes your account more high value. The more you comment, the more videos that you have, the higher the value that YouTube applies to your account. So it's always help to be "in the trenches." You don't have to do this every day, but once every couple of months, comment on any new related videos that you find.

Keep in mind you want to provide as much value as possible. If you make poor videos and comments, you just won't get the same results. So put in a little extra elbow grease, and reap the rewards.
